So, I thought I would share from our Bible Study last night at BattleCry…
One of the most powerful parts of our body is the tongue. It can do so much to encourage others, share Christ with those that don’t know Him, or it can tear others down & hurt our witness for Christ. We’ve mentioned hypocrisy in our lessons for the past several months & our words are no different. James 3:9-10 discusses this same topic. If we claim to follow Christ, THAT is what should come out of our mouths… Not profanity, crude comments, inappropriate humor, etc. We, as Christians, are called to be set apart in all that we do, and all that we say.
A few verses we looked at: “Keep your tongues from evil & your lips from speaking lies…” (Psalm 34:13);
“[David] says, ‘I will watch my ways & keep my tongue from sin; I will put a muzzle on my mouth as long as the wicked are in my presence.’ (Psalm 39:1);
“There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him; haught eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies, and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.” (Proverbs 6:16-17)
We went on to read the focal passage of our lesson: James 3:3-12. My relationship with Christ (or lack thereof) will be evident by my actions & my words. The same goes with each of us. If you were to ask those around you if you were a follower of Christ, would they be able to say yes due to the evidence your life has provided?
My request is that you read these passages, THINK, & evaluate YOUR walk. Are you living the life God has called you to live? Are you being the witness that God has called you to be… even in your words?
I pray this provokes thought & reflection… God Bless!!!
