It’s almost been 4 months since I’ve last posted… I’m so sorry if you’ve been waiting on pins & needles… It’s been a crazy summer. I wanted to take a moment & let you know what’s been going on with our student ministry. It’s exploding & I haven’t a clue why, or what to do with them all, LoL.
First let me say, our SM isn’t the stereotypical FBC. Our make up is black kids, white kids, mixed kids… Kids with money, kids with no money… Kids living with both parents, no parents, & bouncing around… and I frikkin’ LOVE IT!
Through the summer we were averaging around 40-45. We’d carry 30 or so out for fellowships. I knew all of them & had great relationships with each student. At the end of July we were experiencing some issues with disruptions due to basketball & kids coming for the wrong reasons. Some of my students suggested only hooping on 2 Wednesdays a month. I began to think, “I really don’t want to see our numbers drop.” I’ve always said, it’s not about the numbers, it’s about the souls reached, and at that time God reminded me of that. I stepped back & determined that I’m going to continue to teach whether we stayed at the current numbers or dropped back down to 15.
July’s average was 45, August jumped to 51 & I’m trying to figure out how we didn’t loose any… The first Wednesday in September was our Back To School Bash (regular Bible study + 30 minutes of hanging out, Ultimate Frisbee, & hamburgers)… we had 84 bodies! This past month we’ve averaged 75 folks at BattleCry. What’s crazy is, we have so many new faces that for the first time in a long time I’m having to really work to meet kids & learn names…
It’s honestly freaked me out a few times b/c we don’t have space for much more than what’s coming… nor do we have transportation for the numbers we’re hitting now… but what it has done is humble me. People ask what we’re doing, and I can’t give them any answer other than “Loving Kids”. It’s a testimony that GOD adds to the body as it pleases HIM.
It’s amazing to see what God will do when we get out of the way. If you’re a member of FBC Tenaha, I want to encourage you to step up & ask God where He would have you to serve. I can’t speak for every facet of our church’s ministry, but I can tell you one thing, we need folks who are willing to walk along side a student, through the crap in their life & SHOW them the love of Christ. We also need help providing & serving food at BattleCry. If you’re willing to serve God through serving students, feel free to email or call me & I’ll find a place to put you to work.
To all of you: my encouragement is, “DON’T BE A PEW-SITTING CHRISTIAN” Get up & find somewhere for God to plug you in to service in the church & get involved!
Thanks & God Bless!
